(2 x 45 min)
(2 x 45 min)
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1) to learn new vocabulary
2) to learn/practice taking visual notes
3) to practice 21st-century skills
PROCEDURE
STEP 1: Look at this word list. Discuss the following questions as a whole class or in small groups.
Is the vocabulary list easy to use when you want to learn English words you don’t know yet? Why? Why not?
Is the list brain-friendly? What does ‘brain-friendly’ mean to you?
What can be done to make what you want to learn more brain-friendly and easier to use?
STEP 2: CHOICE: Work individually or with a partner.
Study this word list carefully. Write down words that best describe who you are now or who would you like to be in the future. Think of some character traits you would like to develop or how you would like to grow as a person.
Next, use the chosen words and create a visual note that will include minimum five vocabulary items from each of the following categories.
Positive character features
Negative character features
Physical appearance
Interests and hobbies
Emotions
Create your own category (or categories if you want more than one)
Try to include the vocabulary that is NEW for you. Think about what words you would like to learn and remember. If there are not enough new words in this word list, use an online dictionary and create your own map with more advanced vocabulary.
Your visual note can be:
a mind map (look here for an example of a mind map)
a poster
any type of visual note that will include 6 different categories and the vocabulary from this word list
ALERT: It’s important you keep your visual notes because you will need them later to complete tasks in the next lessons!
STEP 3: Open this EdPuzzle video and follow the instructions. When you finish watching it, add two more words from the video that best describe you into the correct category in your visual note.
STEP 4: Upload the photo of your visual notes to this PADLET. Look at the notes other students created and find a person who has the most in common with you. Leave him/her a comment saying what you have in common. You can also can ask a question connected to one of the traits. For example:
Hello Jenny! My name is Marta and I’m from Poland. I really like your sketch note. We have seven things in common. We are both creative, sociable, friendly, a bit stubborn and impatient. We both are tall and love playing basketball. What is your favourite team?
STEP 5 (optional, if time allows)
Compare your visual notes with other students in your class. Ask yourselves:
Did you make the same type of visual note? Why? Why not?
Do your notes have any words/expressions in common?

Take these quizzes to give yourself some extra vocabulary practice.
