TOPIC: CULTURE - LESSON 7 & 8
Beyond creativity
(2x45 min)
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1) to activate vocabulary in the context of art and culture
2) to stimulate your creativity
3) to exchange information about artists from different countries
PROCEDURE
STEP 1
You will work in groups of 2-3 (or if it's impossible, individually) and create an e-book about an artist or artists from your country.
How to do it?
If there is at least one laptop/computer per group
Go to bookcreator.com
Sign up and make your account
Join our library using this code: QJG5VLS
Start creating your e-book
When you finish, click the sharing options button at the bottom of the page and click "publish online". In this way, you will generate the link to your e-book.
Next, go to THIS Padlet and paste your link.
ALTERNATIVELY: If there are NO laptops available in class, only mobile devices
Create your e-book as a slide presentation. You can use Google Slides, Canva, Prezi or any other presentation software you know or you would like to learn to use. It's really up to you and how much time you want to spend on the task. Just make sure you know how to generate a link, so that you can share your e-book with other students. Paste the link to your e-book to THIS Padlet.
What should your e-book include?
Minimum 5 pages
Some pictures
Your own text about the chosen artists. Include only the most INTERESTING pieces of information that will be interesting to other students.
Include 15 words from the list presented in lessons 1&2 into your text. The list is here. Each word should be clearly highlighted in a chosen colour.
Add a lovely cover. Decorate it nicely. If you have time, experiment and explore the possibilities of the Book Creator or the chosen presentation software.
Include the list of contents on the first page (if you write about more than one artist)
If you are ready for a bigger challenge and you would like to GO THE EXTRA INTERCULTURAL MILE, compare and contrast two artists from two different countries; explore the extent to which they have influenced each country's culture; investigate who inspired these artists and why is following someone's footsteps (or not!) essential (or not!) for achieving success.
STEP 2
Individually, on THIS Padlet go through 2-3 e-books made by other students.
Choose 1 that you like best.
Join this group on Flip
Record a short review/feedback of the chosen e-book (max time 2:30s).
Generate the link to your recording.
Share your link on THIS Padlet in the comment section under the chosen e-book.
Go back to on THIS Padlet regularly to check if anyone reviewed your e-book :)
TIPS:
Use some of the guiding questions below to create your review.
Don't forget to say what e-book you are reviewing and why.
If you have problems uploading your review, look for help
GUIDING QUESTIONS
Use the following guiding questions to help you create your review:
Have I learned anything new about art and culture?
Was I surprised by anything?
Why were these particular artists chosen to feature in this e-book?
What was the most interesting piece of information I learned from the e-book I looked at?
Is there an artist in my country who makes similar art?
Would you recommend this e-book to students from your home country or a different country? Why?
Why is this artist's art important for the local culture?
TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS
1. Critical thinking
2. Creativity
3. Collaboration
4. Communication
5. Information literacy
6. Media literacy
7. Technology literacy
COMMUNICATION
Students work in groups and communicate orally to decide what artist their book will be about.
Students may exchange feedback with their peers in offline settings.
COLLABORATION
Students collaborate to create a book together.
Next, by reading and creating feedback, they have the opportunity to learn from each other about artists from each other's countries.
METACOGNITION
Questions for students to contemplate:
How did you approach solving problems or completing tasks in this session?
Were you conscious of your thinking process while working on assignments today?
Did you consider different strategies before deciding on a solution?
Were you aware of any distractions or obstacles that affected your focus during the learning activities?
Can you reflect on your own understanding of the concepts covered and identify areas where you might need further clarification?
REFLECTION & EVALUATION
The process of reflection begins when a person refers to his/her own experience and recollects what has occurred, reconsiders the experience, and reevaluates it. This effective strategy also improves critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Students: please fill out the STUDENT REFLECTION & EVALUATION form for the CULTURE module. Your voice is super valuable!
Teachers: please fill out the TEACHER REFLECTION & EVALUATION form for the CULTURE module. Your input is very appreciated.
