weekend in the woods

Join our incredible team of teaching artists for an arts weekend in the woods. From May 28-31, 2021, the Connected Arts community will meet in the woods of Hickory Run State Park in Pennsylvania's beautiful Lehigh Valley. Everyone is invited to pitch a tent, enjoy good food, good company, and incredible surroundings - all while participating in top level, three day music and visual arts workshops. Masks will be worn. Distance will be maintained. Fun will be had. All ages and abilities are welcome.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

FRIDAY:

4:00 pm-6:00 pm Registration and dinner

6:00 - 7:00 Campfire Jam/ Sing-Along

7:00 -8:00 MARSHMALLOWS!!!!

8:00 - Night hike for kids!

8:00 - ??? Parent hang around the campfire (BYOB)

SATURDAY and SUNDAY:

7:00-8:00 BREAKFAST

8:00-9:30 Morning hikes in small groups

9:30 -10:30 Class #1

what to bring

• Personal stuff (clothes, toiletries, etc....)

• MASKS!!! (fresh masks for each day and a couple extras)

• Camping gear for your crew (tent, sleeping bags, pillows, etc....)

• Campfire chair for each person

• Flashlight or head lamp for each person, extra batteries

• Refillable water bottle

• Hiking boots or sneakers

• Small backpack

• First aid kit

• Bug spray

• Plates, cutlery, cups, etc... for each person

• Instruments!!!

• Music, music stand, rosin, extra strings, cello chair, etc.....

• BYOB (if you want)

CLASSES

All our "Weekend in the Woods" classes are totally subject to enrollment and interest. As with all Connected Arts offerings, our classes are open to all ages and abilities. Adults and young people are encouraged to learn, side-by-side. That said, here are some ideas we've been tossing around:

• Musical Improvisation for all

• Bluegrass for beginners

• Traditional, Suzuki-style, instrumental masterclasses

• Composition classes

• Instrumental Ensembles - divided by level

• Wine and cello!!! (Back by popular demand!)

• Musical theater

• Global dance party

• Hand crafts (quilting, knitting, crocheting)

• Water painting

• Sculpting with natural materials

• Drawing

• Yoga for parents

SOund Good?

This weekend is totally open to everyone. We are hopeful that being outside and socially distant will allow people to feel comfortable being together, enjoying nature and art. The cost for the weekend is per family and includes the camp site, food for the weekend, all classes, and art supplies. If finances are an impediment to your family's participation, let us know.
