Troop 29 History
1925- Congers Troop 1 is founded in the Rockland Council
1926- The Troop is chartered by a "group of citizens"
1929- The Troop is now chartered by the Congers Methodist Church; Dan Beard (one of the founders of scouting) moves to Rockland County
1930- The Troop becomes Troop 29; Chartered by the Civic Organization of Congers
1931- Chartered by group of citizens
1936 - George D. James Jr is the Troop's first Eagle Scout
1939- The Troop charters itself
1940- Chartered by group of citizens
1942- Scoutmaster Olson is killed in action during WWII
1951- Troop is chartered by Congers Businessman's Association
1952- Troop is chartered by the Congers Rod & Gun Club
1955- The Troop begins meeting at the VMA building
1965- The Lt. Raymond B. Jauss Post 2607 VFW begins chartering the Troop, today known as the Veterans Memorial Association of Congers, which is still our charter to this day
1967- Troop reaches its peak participation at 73 scouts
1997- The Troop reaches its lowest participation at 6 scouts
1998- The Troop becomes a part of the Hudson Valley Council, Rockland District
2000- The Troop becomes troop 2029 which it is today (abbrv. 29)
2001- The Troop looses former adult leader Carl Flickinger in the September 11th attacks
2009- Meetings begin being held at the Congers Community Center, where they are held today
2011- The troop begins meeting only on Wednesday
2020- Covid-19 pandemic disrupts normal troop activities, the troop temporarily holds meetings using online tools like Discord and Zoom; summer camp is cancelled
2021- The Hudson Valley Council & Westchester-Putnam Council merge to form the Greater Hudson Valley Council
2022- Jen Servidio becomes Troop 29's first female Scoutmaster
2025- The Troops celebrates our 100th Anneversay!
