MEDIA IN CONFLICT    RESOLUTION

Information is power and insight can impact on public discourse.  This way, perceptions can be changed by access to media. Different types of media are utilised globally to distribute knowledge and idealistically, free mass media is a tool of and signpost for democracy. Freedom of expression is not only the core of a healthy media but also a fundamental human right and vital for a democratic structure.

Various  peoples around world have different aspects of media , a survey by UN states majority of them believes that media have very strong positive impact in building public opinions and resolving the conflicts. Conflicts may be of national , international or regional level.

 If we observe carefully in india Covering  CAA/NRC , focusing on  kashmir conditions to  farmers protest to sensitive cases like Nirbhaya ,media had played a very vital role in providing information about the real game going on . Recently during the farmers protest for the bill passed in the parliament it was the national media covering each and every aspect on daily basis having talks with leader of kisan group and telecasting the ground reality, which played a crucial role in pushing the indian government backward.

  The media support in nirbhaya case made it to justice. As the full coverage of the topic supported the victims gaurdian and  united the country for a cause. Further more cases like CAA/NRC ,ARTICLE-370, and many more are perfect examples which demonstrates how media plays vital role in making public opinions to its extreme.

    Specially the print media has revolutionized and helped to reach news in each and every corner of the society .The print media is not only the source of information but it also helps in uniting the country even during the fight of independence newspaper helped in spreading awareness about the extreme measures taken by the collonial government which further inicited protests and revolutionary acts against the british. In short the press kept fires of the indian independence movement alive.

Peoples perception about he media has changed over the time, According to Livingston’s research, "It is incorrect to believe that the media will focus more on the war if there is more death and destruction. According to his research, there is no connection between media attention and the quantity of people at risk of dying, a sign of a situation that could lead to war. The worldwide media appears to be a very haphazard indicator of conflict and an even more superficial means of determining global policy objectives. Media is just not a reliable force for policy change due to the way it chooses what to report on. The international community would be wise to understand the risk of timing and calibrating its responses to the information it receives from media reporting".

Internal conflicts usually have a history rather than developing suddenly. Local media typically have a stronger awareness of the political institutions in place, the conflict's participants, as well as the developments before to the outbreak of violence. Because of this, the media can have an impact on society both before and after the conflict by identifying and appropriately addressing the problem. Local media, as opposed to foreign media that covers conflicts, is a recognised component of society and has the power to either intensify or calm worries. It's important to remember that journalism has the capacity to escalate conflicts while simultaneously showing its potential for useful outcomes. The media can keep a critical watch on situations and diffuse tensions before they get out of hand. So it is very important that media to be independent and fair without any pressure to let them do their work this will be a fair deal for the development of country and its peoples.
