How to get to Durham


By plane: the closest airport is Newcastle International Airport. Once you land, you can reach Durham:

1) by Uber/Taxi (roughly between £40 and £70). You can also book in advance with Polly's Taxi (from £45). The ride takes roughly 45 minutes.

2) get the metro from the airport, stop at “Central Station” (13 stops) and get a train from there. The metro ride lasts approximately 30 minutes; the ticket costs £4.30 (Metro Single Ticket zones A+B+C). Metro tickets can be purchased at the machines at the airport metro station. 

Once at the central station, get a train to Durham. Tickets can be purchased online on the National Rail Website, via the Trainline app, or at the train station. The train ride takes approximately 13 minutes and costs roughly £4. 

Once at Durham Station, you can either walk to your accommodation or get a taxi/Uber. 


If you land at Manchester International Airport, you will be able to reach Durham by train directly from the airport. Make sure you book your train tickets in advance. 

If you land at Edinburgh International Airport, you will need to get Airlink100 to the city centre (tickets can be purchased on board for £5.50, the ride takes approximately 30 minutes) and then get a train from Edinburgh Waverley Station to Durham. Make sure you purchase your train tickets in advance to enjoy lower fares. 

If you land at any of the London airports, you can get a train to Durham. Make sure you purchase your train tickets in advance to enjoy lower fares.
