160 scientists from 22 countries discussed the influence of the crises over tourism

160 scientists from 22 countries discussed the influence of the crises over the tourism sector. This happened on the current international scientific conference organized by the Tourism Department, Faculty of Economics, University of Veliko Tarnovo. The conference took place on April 21 and was entirely online. "The period from the announcement of the event to the last day before its realization was extremely dynamic," commented the organizing committee. The proceedings, published on the conference website, exceed 1 000 pages and contains reports by scientists from 22 countries. Nearly 160 participants presented their work during the five working sessions.

A representative of the rector's management was Associate Professor Dimitar Simeonov PhD, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Veliko Tarnovo University, who welcomed the participants and opened the scientific event. He expressed confidence that a subsequent event is forthcoming, already in a present atmosphere, at which the results of the published materials will be discussed, and also that the current crisis situation provides new opportunities for testing current scientific discoveries in the field of tourism.

Congratulations to the participants were also presented by Prof. D.Sc. Pencho Penchev - Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Associate Professor Ventsislav Statev PhD- Head of the Department of Tourism.

The official part of the opening of the conference was followed by five working sessions, conducted in four working languages ​​- Bulgarian, English, Russian and Spanish. Many actual issues were discussed: the impact of the Covid epidemic on the sector, the sustainability of the tourism product in its various aspects; the impacts caused by over-tourism and mass tourism; the topics of destination management and reputation; the importance and development of cultural, ethnic, cave, ecological and other specialized types of tourism; digital education in tourism, etc.

"Events like this, with an international character, expand our scientific worldview and build many useful contacts with other scientists in this sphere. We are happy that the conference, organized by our department for the fifth year, provokes wide interest and is becoming an increasingly recognizable field for exchange of ideas. This inevitably affects the quality of the educational product offered by our specialty "- said Associate Professor Desislava Varadzakova PhD, main initiator and a member of the organizing committee of the conference.

The University of Veliko Tarnovo hosted a forum of tourism and global crises

The University of Veliko Tarnovo hosted an online International Scientific Conference on Tourism and Global Crises.

Over 160 scientists from 22 countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Ecuador, India, Spain, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, Uzbekistan , Ukraine, Hungary, took part in the scientific forum organized by the Department of Tourism at the Faculty of Economics of VTU "St. St. Cyril and Methodius ”.

Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Simeonov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, opened the conference and greeted all participants.

"Dear colleagues and participants in the scientific forum, I would like to congratulate you on behalf of the academic management and personally on behalf of the Rector Prof. Dr. Hristo Bondzholov with the opening of this prestigious scientific event.

The event is extremely relevant because the global pandemic has caused serious damages to the tourism sector in the last year. This requires an academic rethinking of tourism processes and such a scientific forum has the potential to contribute to the emergence of new ideas and opportunities for the sector. I wish success to all participants in the event! ", said at the opening Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Simeonov.

The Dean of the Faculty of Economics Prof. Sc.D. Pencho Penchev PhD welcomed the participants and paid attention to the large scale of the scientific event.

Assoc. Prof. Ventsislav Statev PhD, Head of the Department of Tourism and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the conference, expressed his satisfaction with the great interest in the event and drew attention to the fact that in the last few years the department has experience in organizing various academic events, including those with international participation.

After the opening there were 5 working sessions lead in four working languages ​​- Bulgarian, English, Russian and Spanish, in which scientists from different universities and research units had the opportunity to present their scientific results. Members of the organizing committee of the conference were the moderators of the sessions - Assoc. Prof. Desislava Varadzhakova PhD, Assistant Professor Olga Mancheva-Ali PhD, Assistant Professor Nadezhda Kostadinova, Assistant Professor Zhanina Stoyanova PhD and Marina Raykova (NIGGG-Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), and Maria Velkova, organizer of the department's activities, joined the overall organization of the event.

This is the largest scientific conference organized by the Department of Tourism so far, for which it received dozens of congratulations from researchers from different countries.

The annual conference this year is in a new format

Videosat TV was the first media that this year represented the  International Scientfic Conference "Tourism and the global crises".  In the video interview was presented initial information about the conference's course. For a very short time participants from Egypt, Azerbaijan, Great Britain, Romania, Thailand, Brazil together with some scientists from the largest Bulgarian univiersities have sent on their registrations. 

Assoc. prof. Ventsislav Statev (Head of the Tourism Department) put an accent on the evolution of the conference during the years. The event has been established as a student and PhD one but being recognized as one of the prestigious scienticif forums with interesting themes and excellent communication between the organizers and the participants, this year - for the fifth anniversary of the department, it is already an international conference. Wide contacts are established with a lot of foreign student, PhD students, lecturers as well as many practitioners who find the event a proper place to publish their researches. "Namely this gave us the confidence to change the format of the conference" said Assoc. prof. Desislava Varadzhakova, one of the main initiators and engines of the scientific event.

This year the conference has its own online space for the sake of smooth communication and fast registration process. "Analyzing the website we can understand in which countries and regions an interest to the conference is registered even without received reports" said Nadezhda Kostadinova, one of the members of the Organizing committee.
