Wishbone

Released on August 15, 2025, Wishbone is the fourth studio album by Conan Gray. The album arrived only a year after his previous record, Found Heaven, but it represents a completely new chapter in Conan’s music and storytelling.

Wishbone blends pop and pop-rock with influences from 1990s alternative music, giving the album a nostalgic but emotional sound. While Conan’s earlier projects often focused on heartbreak and loneliness, Wishbone explores the complicated transition into adulthood, reflecting on relationships, identity, and personal growth.

The album was created quietly while Conan was touring for Found Heaven. He later revealed that he had been writing songs late at night after concerts, sometimes in his hotel room or backstage at venues. What started as personal songwriting eventually turned into a full album.

At its core, Wishbone is about reflection and emotional healing. Many of the songs look back on past relationships and memories, exploring the lingering feelings that remain even after something ends.

The album’s title comes from the tradition of breaking a wishbone — where two people pull apart a bone and the person with the larger piece gets to make a wish. Conan uses this idea as a metaphor for life and relationships. Sometimes people don’t get what they hoped for, but the experience still shapes who they become.

Through the album, Conan explores ideas such as looking back on past love and heartbreak, searching for signs or meaning in relationships, accepting that some connections are meant to end, and growing into adulthood and understanding yourself. Compared to some of his earlier albums, Wishbone feels reflective rather than purely sad. The songs often balance emotional vulnerability with moments of acceptance and clarity.

Several songs from Wishbone are connected through a set of music videos known as “The Wishbone Trilogy.” These videos accompany the singles “This Song,” “Vodka Cranberry,” and “Caramel,” telling a connected story about love and relationships.

The visuals explore themes of romantic longing and identity, adding a cinematic element to the album’s storytelling. Many fans saw the trilogy as one of Conan’s most ambitious visual projects.

To celebrate the album, Conan launched a series of live performances and concerts, including the Wishbone Pajama Show and later the Wishbone World Tour. These shows featured theatrical staging and interactive moments with fans, further expanding the creative world of the album. 

Wishbone represents another step in Conan Gray’s artistic evolution. The album combines emotional storytelling with a more mature perspective, reflecting on the past while moving toward the future.

Wishbone Deluxe

Wishbone (Deluxe) by Conan Gray, released in April 2026, expands his fourth studio album with five new tracks that deepen the emotional storytelling of the original record. Instead of feeling like leftover songs, the deluxe tracks continue the narrative of Wishbone, exploring themes of love, heartbreak, and self-reflection with a slightly more mature and introspective perspective. The project maintains its signature blend of pop and pop-rock influences while adding new layers to the album’s sound and meaning, making it feel more complete and cohesive. Overall, Wishbone (Deluxe) serves as a final chapter to the era, giving fans a deeper understanding of the emotions behind the album while extending the impact of one of Conan’s most personal projects.
