One approach to safely backing up live data is to temporarily disable write access to data during the backup, either by stopping the accessing applications or by using the locking API provided by the operating system to enforce exclusive read access. This is tolerable for low-availability systems (on desktop computers and small workgroup servers, on which regular downtime is acceptable). High-availability 24/7 systems, however, cannot bear service stoppages.

Some volume managers also allow creation of writable snapshots, extending the copy-on-write approach by disassociating any blocks modified within the snapshot from their "parent" blocks in the original volume. Such a scheme could be also described as performing additional copy-on-write operations triggered by the writes to snapshots.

Some file systems, such as WAFL,[a] fossil for Plan 9 from Bell Labs, and ODS-5,[citation needed] internally track old versions of files and make snapshots available through a special namespace. Others, like UFS2, provide an operating system API for accessing file histories. In NTFS, access to snapshots is provided by the Volume Shadow-copying Service (VSS) in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and Shadow Copy in Windows Vista. Melio FS provides snapshots via the same VSS interface for shared storage.[2] Snapshots have also been available in the NSS (Novell Storage Services) file system on NetWare since version 4.11, and more recently on Linux platforms in the Open Enterprise Server product.

EMC's Isilon OneFS clustered storage platform implements a single scalable file system that supports read-only snapshots at the file or directory level. Any file or directory within the file system can be snapshotted and the system will implement a copy-on-write or point-in-time snapshot dynamically based on which method is determined to be optimal for the system.

On Linux, the Btrfs and OCFS2 file systems support creating snapshots (cloning) of individual files. Additionally, Btrfs also supports the creation of snapshots of subvolumes. On AIX, JFS2 also support snapshots.

But first, what exactly is a screenshot? A screenshot or screen capture is a picture taken by a computer, mobile or tablet user, using the device in question, to record the visible items displayed on the screen. The image is stored as a graphics file. Screenshots can be taken using various programs or by using particular keyboard/button shortcuts.

Hi -- I had to reinstall windows but would like to use previous Fences setup. I see your help page about restoring snapshots but I can only choose from the initial snapshots on the new machine. How do I select and restore snapshots from the old machine. I have saved the correct snapshot from the old computer. I tried to move the snapshot xml and png file to the new install but to no avail. Thanks.

-Right click on the desktop and select "Configure Fences..."

-Click on "Layout and snapping" on the left hand side of the configuration window that appears.

-Select a snapshot you wish to revert to. A preview window will appear showing you what the desktop will look like.

-Click Restore Snapshot to revert the desktop to this preview.

Apparently RING does not consider a Windows computer a device. Why is the Windows App so featureless?

The History does not allow us to see the timeline as I can on my DEVICE know as an iPhone.

We cannot setup a Ring Camera from a Windows computer.

We cannot even get a proper status of the camera which is consistent. Looking at the Device and select the camera. The Live View button is disabled because my Wi-Fi disconnected the device, but if I click on the Settings the Status is Online.

I don't need a screenshot of my problem. I have been trying to buy credits to play computer games but the Microsoft form will not give me the option to select my State, which is Victoria. I have reported this problem many times over the past few days but the problem remains.

I want to get snapshot in a single relevance query call for all computers at once. The result expected is either XML/JSON such that I can easily access all properties of computers

For e.g.

Computer 1 => [ array of key value pairs for all its properties]

Computer 2 => [array of key value pairs for all its properties]

If your computer doesn't have the PrtScn key, no worries, Microsoft has another keyboard shortcut for you. You can press Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar to take a screenshot. It will then be saved to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

I created a Team with a DC, a SQL box and a frontend server. I also took some snapshots on the frontend and the sql. The problem is when I go back to a snapshot and if i logout or restart the server either on the sql or the frondend server, not touching the DC, when I try to log back in the server, i get the follow:

When you join a system to a domain, a machine account is created in the domain for the system. Your server automatically changes the password for this machine account at set intervals. What is happening is that after you took your snapshot your Guest changed its machine account password. Then when you revert back to your snapshot your Guest is trying to use the old password.

Maybe the secure channel password between the DC and the member server/workstation has changed after the snapshot was taken (default is to change it every 30 days). Then the reverted machine doesn't not know the new password. If this is the case you need to reset the domain computer account and to rejoin the machine into the domain.

Today I tried to use Snapshot and it didn't work again. I had someone else log onto my computer and try it. It worked fine for them. I logged onto their computer and used snapshot just fine. When I logged back onto my own computer it still wouldn't work for me. But I could go into properties and print a test page just fine. It just won't work out of any other program. It work maybe 1 day out of every 5 days that I try to use it.

-When I try to print a specific pdf to LF snapshot it brings up the dialog box, when she tries to print the same pdf to LF snapshot it gets stuck in the printing queue (just like your screenshot above)

V-79-10000-11233 - VSS Snapshot error. A Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot is already running on the target computer. Only one snapshot can run at a time. Try running the job later.

I'm using Helix Native through Presonus Studio One and Reaper and I'm wondering is there a way to key-bind snapshot changes to a keyboard so it's more convenient to use while playing live. I'm not interested in automation, etc, just simple click and change the snapshot functionality.

I found the config file in the backup and copied it to Home/ .config/ backintime. I opened Settings in BackInTime, and under the General tab, clicked advanced, unchecked 'Auto Host', and changed the Host and User fields to what they were on the previous system, and refreshed the snapshot list, but it still doesn't recognize the backup.

Edit - I'm actually just copying the files back now. Because it is called a snapshot, I thought it was like a disk image and you couldn't do that, but the files can be opened. Kind of laborious but not tragic.

Please use current BackInTime version from our PPA. I added a 'restore config' function in there. If BIT doesn't find a config it will ask if you would like to restore it. Than you just need to choose the snapshot from which you would like to restore and hit enter. Also the Auto Host/User/ProfileID setting is gone as this confuses everyone in your situation.

Is there a problem with independent backups of two PCs? You will get two sets of snapshot manifests, but the underlying files will be exactly the same and stored once. To restore, you can always pick the latest snapshot from either PC and restore to whichever one you prefer.

I am new here in freenas and xcp-ng and xen orchestra i just made a freenas server and set periodic snapshots in a pool now i wonder if i can do same thing in xcp-ng vm, i installed xcp-ng and configured xen orchestra for first time use but now i stuck if i can do the same thing as in freenas so can you please help me?

Webcam stream works properly, but snapshot not working. If I try to get https://mywebsite/webcam/?action=stream everything is ok, but there is a problem to get https://mywebsite/webcam/?action=snapshot

The streaming url is consumed by the computer that has the browser you use to access Cura.

The snapshot url is consumed by the computer that is running OctoPrint. The computer running OctoPrint seems to have trouble resolving the url.

Note that - as I alluded to in my first reply - it is a lot more efficient to use 127.0.0.1 in the snapshot url (and forego the ssl connection). This is OctoPrint accessing a service on the same computer; no need to go through the router or the reverse proxy. 0852c4b9a8
