Hello and welcome to my Composition 101 Portfolio! I am currently a freshman at Moraine Valley Community College. My name is Mary Clare Duffy and I am nineteen years old. Here you will find my essays I have written throughout my first semester of college. Throughout this semester, I have been challenged to use different forms of multi media and write more than I ever have before. I have learned more about media and that telling a story doesn't always necessarily have to be pen on paper. Through exploring other ways to get a message across, I have learned the value and power of words and narrative. I have worked extensively on my word choice, formatting, and writing style throughout this semester. I have been challenged to push my creative boundaries and am proud to have accomplished substantial and creative content for each assignment.
I have learned more about myself throughout the process of completing this portfolio. I have been challenged to view topics in another light. I have stepped out of my own shoes to think and write better than ever before. My portfolio all comes together through the theme of Turning Face to the Strange. I have revealed a great deal of myself through Unmasked, and a great deal about another individual in Underlying Villains. In each of my writings I have made something I am familiar with foreign, so that I can look at it through another point of view. Through the process of writing about myself and others, I have learned so much more. Throughout this portfolio, you will find the written assignments given by my instructor. I wrote about various topics and was challenged to think outside of the box.
In regards to mixed media and written word, there is a lot within those boundaries to work with. I used sound cloud and I-movie as some of the mixed media for these projects. I think the mixed media allows a nice outlet from written work and lets the creative juices flow. There is a significant difference when a message is coming across through words on paper versus an actual voice. Through voice, like in person, you can hear the tone and feel the vibe. I enjoyed exploring mixed media throughout these projects. Words tell a story and I believe all of my works have a story rooted within; it is upon the reader's choice to find that story. When you browse through the tabs of my writing, I hope you enjoy and learn through my process of making the familiar strange.
