Title: Classical Special Functions: History and Applications
Date: 13th September, 2025 (Saturday)
Time: 05:00 PM - 06:00 PM (IST)
Abstract: This talk will introduce some of the most important special functions in mathematics, such as the Gamma, Beta, and hypergeometric functions. We will look at how they first appeared in the work of Euler, Gauss, and Riemann, and how they developed over time. Then we will discuss their key properties, like integral formulas and connections to differential equations. We will also show how these functions are related to other special functions, including Bessel, modified Bessel, and Legendre functions, and why they remain useful in modern mathematics and applications.
