The main objective of “COMPsumption” is to spread awareness about computer addiction and how it can possibly result in self-neglect and poor wellbeing. It is our priority to warn people to lessen their consumption of the internet before it consumes them.
A big population of humans consume media everyday. According to datareportal (n.d.), 5.16 billion people around the world use the internet daily. This means that 64.4 percent of the world’s population is an internet user. With the rising advancement of technology, the internet continues to become a part of people’s lives. There are benefits such as easier communication and faster access to information, but like everything else, technological advancement has its downsides. Computer addiction is one of them. A computer addict becomes dependent on the internet for the satisfaction of their needs, which then causes them to ignore habits that are essential for daily life. In this situation, the media and internet are consuming the user so they usually end up centering their life on playing games, using social media, or browsing the internet.
Our team chose the name for our advocacy to be "COMPsumption" due to one of the effects of a computer addiction. To be consumed of energy, time, and self-care. Self-neglect and a poor wellbeing can be the result of spending too much time online. We wanted to create a title that emphasized not only the consumption of one's self, but also emphasized the computer being the primary cause of it. Given those two objectives/messages, we decided to fit them together and to form our name, "COMPsumption."
