Our Core Beliefs

We believe healthcare is a fundamental human right. Medical care should not be linked to wealth or employment status. We will advocate for universal healthcare at the federal and state levels.

We must also invest in robust mental health services, including substance abuse treatment, and make mental healthcare part of general wellness exams.

We believe housing is a human right and that all people, regardless of wealth or income level, should have stable, affordable housing. We will support candidates, policies, and legislation that will work to realize this vision.

We will work to strengthen public education and resist all attempts at privatization. We will advocate to make public college free, and keep fighting to cancel all student debt.

We believe in restorative justice and violence prevention strategies that have been shown to reduce recidivism and improve public safety. 

We must and will advocate to end:

• mass incarceration

• the failed war on drugs

• the death penalty

• solitary confinement

• the practice of charging youth as adults

• all punitive policies and practices that disproportionately impact BIPOC communities in California and across the nation

Additionally, we must provide people currently incarcerated with humane conditions, educational opportunities, quality physical and mental health care, and real pay for their work. 

We strongly believe that love is love. We will always fight to protect the right to marry the partner you love at the state and federal level.

We will fight for protections for transgender persons, access to gender affirming care, protections for LGBTQIA+ people in the military, and protections for transgender youth in our schools.

We believe that abortion is essential women's healthcare and that the decision to seek an abortion should be between a woman and her doctor. We will work to protect that right in California and fight to regain the protections of Roe v. Wade for all women in the United States.

We believe and will work to enhance environmental protections, expand renewable energy sources, and keep fossil fuels in the ground.

The minimum wage must be a real, livable wage that empowers and raises the standard of living for the working class. We must protect the right to unionize and do more to prevent union-busting behavior from employers.

We must invest in job training for youth, providing more opportunities for our next generation of leaders. Additionally, we must invest in retraining the people currently working in the oil, gas, and coal industries, for clean energy jobs.

We believe we need to get all corporate spending out of politics and will work to advance legislation and ballot measures that end the influence of big money in California elections.

We reject and believe that our party and endorsed candidates should reject political contributions from AIPAC, military contractors, fossil fuel interests, police unions, the private prison industry, and all corporate PACs.

We will fight for justice and a free Palestine! 

We must apply international and U.S. laws that require an arms embargo be imposed on Israel until Israel stops the genocide in Gaza, ends the occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, dismantles settlements, complies fully with all decisions of the International Court of Justice, allows Palestinians to return home and honors Palestinians’ right to self-determination.

We support reparations for African Americans and Native Americans, as well as land rematriation for Native Americans, including returning several state parks and forests to the stewardship of California’s Indigenous Peoples.

We must end U.S. involvement in wars and meddling in support of anti-democratic forces around the globe. We must reduce U.S. military spending and redirect funds to education, housing, healthcare, reparations, climate protection, job creation, and violence prevention.

Additionally, we must fully support our Veterans when they come home from foreign conflict and war.
