Context: A cultural event showcasing art, music, and performances inspired by the Filipino people’s vision of a new tomorrow. LIWAYWAY is being held to commemorate Andres Bonifacio Day celebrated at the end of November in the Philippines. Bonifacio, considered a hero who led the Filipino people in rising up against Spanish colonizers at the turn of the 20th century, continues to inspire Filipino-Americans, Filipino immigrants, and many in the US and across the world to advocate for a society that actualizes the aspirations of the people.

Context: Two Gabriela members return from their summer integration mission, where they accompanied the day to day organizing of Filipinas in the Philippines. This event is a report and sharing of their reflections, while also honoring Filipino American History Month through a unique eating experience.

Context: TW ANTI-TRANS VIOLENCE Screened Call Her Ganda for campus organizations, community members, and other human rights groups. Call Her Ganda is a documentary of a transgender Filipina woman who was found dead in a motel room, killed by leading suspect Scott Pemberton, a U.S. Marine, and the fight for justice and accountability. The ensuing case lays bare political tensions between the United States and the Philippines.

Context: Organize a contingent to join the largest parade for Philippine Independence Day outside of the Philippines. As a coalition, we aim to join as a contingent to unite the Filipino people across the Northeast to continue the fight for genuine democracy against tyranny. We also welcome our non-Filipino allies who would like to be in solidarity with the Filipino people!
