State Training for Returning Preparers
One Big Beautiful Bill (OB3). The OB3 changes are NOT on the exam.
4. Prepare for and take your exams
State tax law and One Big Beautiful Bill (OB3) are not covered on the exam. Do not wait for to take your exam.
Plan to submit your exam by January 26th or at least 1 week before your tax site opens.
To prepare: Review
Pub. 4491, (not updated for OB3) “Important Changes for 2025” (PDF page 11+)
AND Chapters 1 and 2 (PDF pages 20-42)

5. REQUIRED: Verify your identity during our virtual office hours We can not let you volunteer or give you access to TaxSlayer tax site software until you have completed this step. Plan to complete the steps at least 1 week before your tax site opens.
To complete the process:
Submit page two of your volunteer agreement via email to volunteer@communitytaxaiddc.org
Show your photo id during the virtual office hours
The hours are:
January 12th-15th Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 2:00- 5:00 pm
January 19th- January 30th. Monday-Friday 2:00-5:00 pm
Email volunteer@communitytaxaiddc.org if you need a time outside of these hours.
