Emails are useful, but you must be careful to protect your information Only open emails from people you know
Check the sender’s email address. Scammers may use fake addresses. This email appears to be from PayPal but has a person’s name- not a PayPal address. It is not from PayPal.
Do not click on strange links or open unknown attachments. They may have viruses. This email appears to be from FedEx, and it wants me to click on the Check Here link. DON’T!
Click on the drop-down arrow by the sender’s name (FEDEX OFFICE………) It really came from noreply@bounasir@xyz. That is not a FedEx address.
Never share personal information (bank details, passwords) by email. Real companies won’t ask for this.
Personally Identifiable Information (PII):
PII is information that can be used to identify you. You should NEVER post any of this information online.
Examples include:
Your last name
Address
Phone number
Email address
Social-security number
Usernames and passwords
Date of birth
Your home address
Family members’ names (brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, or others)
That you are home alone, including being on vacation (when your home might be unattended)
Pictures that can be used to identify you
Use strong passwords to keep your email account safe.
A strong password is at least 8 characters long and includes:
Big and small letters (A, a)
Numbers (1,2,3)
Special characters (*, $, !)
Watch Out for Scams and Phishing:
❌ Scams – Fake emails that try to trick you into giving personal details or money.
❌ Phishing – Emails pretending to be from a real company (banks, jobs, government.) They usually ask for your password or money.
You can also get text phishing messages on your cell phone.
You can tell this text message is not from the Toll Road.
It has a person’s name and Outlook address as the sender.
Delete them and report them as junk
Companies will never text you or email you asking for personal information.
✔ If unsure, do not click! Go to the company’s real website instead.
✔ Delete scam emails and do not reply.
