In the forest, you can be anything!
That's why we set aside time each week for students to adventure out into nature. On Wednesdays, students go on woodsy walks to learn, observe, and identify.
On Fridays, students have free reign of the forest- we make forts, play games, and enjoy the magic of the woods!
The library at The Common School is one of our most treasured spaces. Unlike most libraries, our books are organized by topic, so even beginning readers can find their way around. Kids can go to library during choice time in the morning, as well as during the week at scheduled times with our librarian, Kristin.
From the very beginning of the day, you'll hear music drifting across the field at The Common School. Mammi-Ama works with each class at least twice a week to sing, dance and play so many instruments! She also leads our Big Sing, when the whole community comes together in song each week.
P.E. is time to play- for everyone! Kerri, our play instructor, guides kids' play during outside time, recess, and gym class! You can see kids outside any day (rain or shine!) running, jumping, climbing, or even dancing!
At The Common School, you won't see any formal art classes, but that doesn't mean we don't do art. In fact, it's just the opposite. Art is part of everything we do! Art is an integral part of our in-depth studies, and is also offered at choice every morning. Because why limit it to once a week?
