A seeker approached a Zen teacher and asked, “Master, what is the key to achieving enlightenment?”
“Attention.”
“Yes, of course. But can you tell me how to reach higher levels of wisdom?”
“Attention.”
“Master, is there nothing more you can tell me to help me on my journey?”
“Attention.”

To be present
To listen to, to heed
To accompany as a companion or servant
To take care; to give attention; to take care of (a sick person, for example)

To stand by ready to serve; to wait expectantly

The act of close and careful observing and listening
