Growing up in Tallahassee, FL I was only minutely aware of the city's history in segregation. Many schools that are now predominantly black schools were once all white schools. However beyond that, I saw my hometown as separated from slavery and its brutality. While at the memorial, I found the list for my county. While seeing that there was indeed a history of racial violence, What was most surprising to me was that these last names are still prominent families in the area.

Lee county was interesting to me because it holds Auburn University. Though my personal connection is limited to my time here for education and my love of football, it's interesting that I never thought to think of what the past here might have been like.
