Responsibilities of Winning the Title

Winning the title of Miss Colorado or Miss Colorado’s Teen is both a privilege and a responsibility. While our goal is that all participants benefit from the program, not everyone has the time or passion required to fulfill the role. To ensure our titleholders are fully committed, we offer an opt-out option during competition. This allows contestants to earn up to 1st Runner-Up and receive scholarship money without winning the title or assuming the associated responsibilities.

If you choose to compete with the goal of winning, here is what will be required of you:

Time Commitment

Miss Colorado

• 10–20 hours per week minimum (including 10 hours of administrative tasks)

  • Hours will increase with preparation for Miss America. 

Miss Colorado’s Teen

• 5–10 hours per week minimum (including 5 hours of administrative tasks)

  • Hours will increase with preparation for Miss America’s Teen.

Administrative Responsibilities

A significant portion of your role involves administrative duties that will help you grow professionally and personally. As a titleholder, you will be expected to:

• Respond daily to emails and texts from your director and board.

• Write thank-you notes to sponsors and for appearances within 5 days of each visit.

• Manage social media, including:

  • Creating and posting content with a minimum of 3 posts per week 

  • Engaging with potential delegates and recruiting for the competition

• Check the Miss Colorado calendar daily and provide advance notice for any travel or unavailability.

• Schedule personal appearances (in addition to those booked by the organization).

• Attend monthly in-person meetings with your director or board (1–3 hours minimum).

• Participate in all delegate development Zoom calls (minimum of once a month).

Sponsor Visits

Sponsors are essential to the success of our program, providing both financial and in-kind support. As a titleholder, you are required to:

• Build relationships with sponsors by visiting and engaging with them.

• Post about sponsors on social media regularly.

• Visit each sponsor as required (typically monthly or quarterly).

• Dedicate at least one full day per month to sponsor visits.

Additional Time Commitments

Appearances

You should enter competition week with a clear plan for how you will engage as a titleholder. This includes:

• Identifying organization(s) you wish to serve.

• Defining how you will promote your Community Service Initiative (CSI).

• Selecting major events to participate in.

• Scheduling appearances (many will be arranged by YOU, while the organization will handle larger events).

Minimum Appearances Required (Excluding Sponsor Visits) Throughout the Year of Service:

• Miss Colorado: At least 6 appearances per month

• Miss Colorado’s Teen: At least 2 appearances per month

Miss America Preparation

Approximately 10 weeks after crowning, Miss Colorado and Miss Colorado’s Teen will compete at Miss America. Between June and August, your focus will be on:

• Wardrobe, talent, walking preparation, interview preparation, and marketing/branding strategies.

• Visiting sponsors.

• Miss Colorado: Dedicating at least 20 hours per week to preparation. 

• Miss Colorado’s Teen: Dedicating at least 5 hours per week to preparation

Recruitment & Fundraising

Growing the Miss Colorado program is a key part of your role. In the spring, you will:

• Recruit new delegates through direct messaging, recruiting events, and local appearances.

• Engage in fundraising efforts and community events. Connect with potential sponsors.

• Attend all local delegate events leading up to the competition.

Financial Responsibilities of the Winner

While we work to cover as many expenses as possible through sponsorships, some costs remain the responsibility of the titleholder.

Expenses Typically Covered by the Organization or Sponsors:

• Airfare to Miss America competition

• Competition gown (up to a specific value)

• Photo sessions

• Autograph cards & thank-you notes

Expenses NOT Covered (Titleholder’s Responsibility):

• Travel costs (gas, lodging, food for appearances)

• Wardrobe for appearances & Miss America week

• Any additional gown expenses beyond the sponsored amount

• Talent-related costs (music tracks, costumes, training)

• Hair & makeup at Miss America

• Family’s travel expenses to attend Miss America

Cost-Saving Options: Many titleholders borrow, thrift, or do their own hair and makeup. Others choose to purchase new items. There is no right or wrong approach—our goal is to support you!

We hope that as the Miss Colorado Organization continues to grow, we will be able to cover more expenses. However, we prefer to take a cautious approach when setting expectations about which expenses will be covered by the organization.
