Urinary Infections in the Elderly - Are They More Common Than Thought?

In a recent study it was found that urinary infections in the elderly are more common than thought. The bacteria that cause urinary tract infections are over three times more prevalent in women that in men. Women are more susceptible to chronic urinary tract infections, as they have less immunity in general.

In women there are also more chances of getting chronic bacterial infections and this has resulted in an increase in hospitalization. Research was also conducted on the problem of catheter-related urinary infections, which also shows a rise in this type of infection.

The causes of urinary tract infections are not yet known. This might be due to a weak immune system, which leads to this infection. There are certain foods that can increase your chances of getting UTIs in women as well as in men.

The increase in the incidence of these infections can be attributed to age-related hormonal changes and other factors which play a role in it. It is always better to consult a doctor as early as possible for prevention.

A catheter may also be required to treat the infection. One such catheter is the Monogastric Monoclonal Antibody (MMNA) catheter, which can help in the treatment of the infection.

Other options include the use of antibiotics for treating the infection or the use of a surgical tubal ligation for the infection. Medication is required to treat the infection and other treatment options may include surgery for other infections like cancer. The problem of the infection can be treated if it is caught early enough.

The problem of urinary infections in the elderly is not that big an issue but some people are still embarrassed about having it. As there are solutions to the problem, it is better to go to a doctor and have the problem diagnosed.
