Given the competitiveness of college admissions, it is extremely important to ensure that the letters of recommendation that are written on behalf of your child are exceptionally detail-oriented, providing insight about your child's passions, intellectual curiosity inside and outside the classroom, and standout dispositional characteristics. Many college consultants overlook this part of the process, as a diverse array of students from disparate backgrounds have high grades, robust standardized testing, and strong extracurricular activities. As a counselor for a quarter-century, I know how critical this information is to my writing differentiating letters of recommendation for students that can be tremendously important between that student getting into a school or being deferred or denied (in the ED, REA, EA, or RD pools). I work with students to help craft very specific brag sheets to reduce the work that the teachers and counselor need to do independently, so they can draw upon this information to ensure that that the application is compelling, consistent across all parts, and powerfully constructed. Nothing can be left to chance! Despite what might be said about the content of the letters of specific teachers and counselors, it may very well be generic and ultimately hurt a student's chances of getting into the more to most selective schools in the country. Students waive their right to see these letters, so it is crucial to have a voice in this integral process! And I will make sure you do!
The most veteran college consultants know how critical the teacher and counselor letters are in the process and ensure that those supporting materials are exceptional in quality.
