Summer 2025 Trips Recap

The GEAR UP students, staff, and even a few parents had the opportunity to see the hit musical from Alicia Keys, "Hell's Kitchen." Before heading to the theater to see the show, we had a BBQ dinner with everyone as soon as we arrived to the city. 

Our next field trip took place in Wild West City, which gave students a chance to step back into time and see how the western experience was like in this replica western town. From the video above, you can see how using the tools they provided, the students were able to get a hands-on experience on searching for things through pile of rocks.

The GEAR UP students and staff were excited to visit the Jenkinson's aquarium where they got to see all the exotic sea life animals and learn about their environment. Our tour guide gave an opportunity to let us touch a sea urchin and see it up close. 

The students, a few parents, and GEAR UP staff were able to go on our Summer Connecticut overnight trip where the students were able to go to the University of Connecticut and the Central Connecticut State University to learn so much about the campus, student life, and resources they offered for first generation and low income students. As seen in the picture above, UCONN were able to show the students a replica of what a undergraduate dorm looks like for the students on campus.
