Technology Needed for Use

Viewing

Learners require access to the internet and a computing device with a desktop browser to view the website in its best quality and to fully participate in the activities. A computer with clear audio and visual output is recommended to enhance the website’s integrated soundbites and videos. Access to word processing software is recommended to jot notes and generate responses to the activity prompts. The website’s interface will allow for simple and direct navigation for learners to explore the multimodal content and to interact with the embedded external sources, such as Padlet, Tumblr, and Disqus. They are not required to own external accounts to contribute to the website, although they may be interested to sign up and explore these various platforms on their own time. Although the site is accessible on a web browser on a smartphone, the integrated content from Padlet, Tumblr and Disqus is best accessed from the desktop experience.

Contributing

Access to a device such as a smartphone that has photo, video and audio capturing abilities will greatly enhance learners’ ability to experiment with multimedia technology for the creation and submission of contributions to the exhibits. Other tools such as digital cameras, audio recorders or video recorders would allow for similar functionality. Basic audio, video and image editing software may be useful for specific or more complex multimedia creations, yet for most purposes the editing software integrated within a smartphone is sufficient.
