Brief introduction for student
2026/9/21
VVN was invited to share scientific insights on the Matai'an River landslide and its associated hazards in United Daily News (UDN)'s special report, 崩塌未完 與馬太鞍溪共存-洪災周年報導 🎥
2026/6/16
Congratulations to Hsuan-Kai Weng on receiving an Honorable Mention in the Student Paper Poster Competition at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Chinese Taipei Geophysical Society and the Geological Society Located in Taipei for his work entitled “Coseismic Seismic Velocity Variations of a Deep-Seated Landslide Caused by Two M6.5+ Earthquakes in Eastern Taiwan.” 🎉
2026/6
Our research, published in Journal of GeoEngineering, combines Newmark analysis with a machine-learning-based decision-tree algorithm to rapidly assess coseismic landslide susceptibility in Taiwan. The framework was validated using multiple earthquake events and integrates the results into a web-based visualization system to support rapid hazard assessment and emergency response. 💡
2026/6/4
Our research, published in Engineering Geology, integrates in-situ monitoring and discrete element analysis to investigate earthquake-induced displacement of a large-scale landslide in eastern Taiwan. The study identifies a site-specific threshold for catastrophic slope failure and highlights the influence of both ground-motion intensity and frequency content on landslide response. ⛰️
2026/5/2
Our research study, published in Landslides, investigates the giant Matai'an landslide using multitemporal remote sensing and seismic source inversion. The results reveal a two-stage failure process with distinct sliding directions and show how pre-failure geomorphic changes and complex landslide dynamics contributed to the formation of the landslide dam. 🌏
2026/1/26
Our collaborative study, published in Communications Earth & Environment, investigates a giant glacier detachment on the Tibetan Plateau using satellite observations and seismic signals. The study reveals rapid acceleration of the glacier prior to failure and suggests that its frozen terminus played a key role in triggering the approximately 40-million-m³ ice avalanche. ❄️
2025/12/29
Our collaborative work, published in Water Resources Research, uses synchronized multidisciplinary observations from large-scale dam-breach experiments to investigate the evolution of overtopping failure. By integrating photogrammetry, flow measurements, autonomous scouring particles, and seismic monitoring, the study provides new insights into the complex erosion and breaching processes of landslide dams. 🌊
2025/12/12
