Cold Air Data

This site is intended to serve as an access point to the current versions of data extracts I regularly refer to in my writing, and to serve reports/pages with different views of the data.

Reporting intended to be delivered as a web page is linked to at the top of all pages.

Data has a number of sources, many of which I've imported into Microsoft Access databases over the years.

Linked Weekly and Monthly "Google" report formats is built on querying the databases of official data improved with estimates of curtailment and embedded generation - two big impacts on all other metrics which are lightly reported on elsewhere.

Power BI reports are, in my experience, incredibly flexible. The tab linking to my Power BI reports discusses the data sources and consequent limitations of the reports.

Maps could be a subset of Power BI reporting, but I describe these on a separate Maps page.

Not given special attention are spreadsheets I update regularly and many are now familiar with (often due to the citations by Parker Gallant). These include:

  • Curtailed Monthly. The [Data summary] is updated regularly. Other tabs, for graphics and calculations for blog posts, will almost certainly date less well.
  • Wind Monthly Totals. The [Monthly Data Summary] is updated regularly. Other tabs, for graphics and calculations for blog posts, will almost certainly date less well.
  • Wind Monthly Curtailment by Zone. Started this Google sheet analyzing how much curtailment appeared to the local congestion as opposed to global surplus. Lots.
  • Annual Costs is a workbook I threw together in response to questions. I find myself returning to it, and referencing it, often - and have updated it a number of times.

I am finding myself working more with Microsoft Excel, and particularly data connections.

A spreadsheet I find myself tracking down on the IESO site which I've connected to list monthly components of the global adjustment since the start of 2015. At this point it's an experiment, but I believe this formatting will be of use to anybody working with the data: GA components
