Dates

The COIN seminar in fall 2023 is offered by the universities of Cologne and Bamberg, and HSLU (University of applied sciences Lucerne) which have different semester start and end dates. 

If you would like to join the seminar, please contact the local administrator at your university listed on the Team page before the official start date.  Before joining a team, please complete the pre-work listed below, and present your results in one of the admission block course dates listed below.

You can join any of the projects listed on the projects page.

Before joining a project team, you will have to work through the Happimetrics book manuscript, to familiarize yourself with the algorithms and methods used in this seminar, and do the pre-work listed below.

Pre-Work

1. Read the "happimetrics" manuscript, and pick a chapter for a short presentation in the workshop.

2. Complete an online social media analysis on Reddit or Wikipedia  of your choice with Griffin. You can self-register for a free account on the Griffin Web site.

3. Complete a virtual mirroring/e-mail analysis, analyzing your own mailbox with Griffin, or of your WhatsApp with SocialCompass.

4. Take the personality, ethics, morals, risk taking tests on the Happimeter Web site (FFI, Dospert, Schwartz, Moral, you need to register/login on the Happimeter Website first to be able to take the tests); (this will be needed for later analysis in the virtual mirror). You can compare that with your values computed from your emotional response to provocative videos.

Once you have completed the pre-work, register by email for one of the admission workshops listed below. Only after successfully having completed the admission workshop, will you be able to join a team. 

At the admission workshop, a brief overview of the seminar will be given, and you will have to present the results of your Twitter Analysis and Mailbox virtual mirror in 5 to 10 minutes on a few Powerpoint slides, as well as the chosen Happimetrics chapter.

  • October 19, 2023, 3 to 4 pm CET  (premeeting only virtual, to answer questions regarding the pre-work (zoom recording)

  • October 26, 2023, 2 to 6 pm CET  (Bamberg, Cologne, HSLU)

  • October 27, 10am to 3pm CET (Bamberg, Cologne, HSLU)

Virtual status meetings are bi-weekly, Tuesdays 16-18:00 CET,  10-12 ET
