Does feeling economically deprived modify the way people orient their attention in natural settings? According to three studies we conducted it seems so! The more individuals perceive themselves as economically deprived, the more they orient their attention preferably on inequality cues (e.g., a homeless man sitting in front of luxury store). Is it adaptive? Could this exacerbate one's perception of economic scarcity? And feelings of social injustice?
