Breathwork is a collection of breathing techniques that allow you to move between different nervous system states. It has been described as psychotherapy through the body rather than the mind.
What is the impact:
Physiological: it can lead to a more regulated nervous system (relief from stress and anxiety) and help with digestion
Psychological: it can make the unconscious conscious and lead to a better understanding of your own behavioural patterns, and empower you to change them
Altered states of consciousness: for some, it can lead to altered states of consciousness where memories surface, trauma or emotions are released, and some report “spiritual" experiences or a sense of oneness
Your role vs the facilitator’s role:
It is your session, and what arises comes from you
The facilitator is there to hold space and guide you through verbal cues and body touch

Breathing is one of the few bodily functions that is both automatic and consciously controllable, making it a powerful bridge to the autonomic nervous system.
