That's a million-dollar question !
And there are 5 good reasons to teach digital skills, math and coding
from early age
Coding is a technical skill to create new things, new designs, imagine new objects, new worlds and implement artistic vision of one's imagination.
On the picture is a project made by one of our 7-year old students: a generative art that uses an algorithm to create colourful designs
Coding develops and enhances Computational Thinking - a logical reasoning aimed to make a program to be executed by a computer.
It is a skill to think logically, use critical reasoning and develop step-by-step solutions to any problem.
Computational Thinking is applied to solve math, physics, chemistry and other scientific and social issues and to develop solutions with a help of computers.
Coding requires attention and, in particular, attention to detail.
Learning to write a simple program teaches students to focus both on a big picture and on a smallest detail.
Information Technology skills were already in high demand both a decade ago and before COVID pandemics. More than 40,000 IT vacancies were open only in Switzerland in 2019.
The recent pandemics accelerated demand for digital skills that nowadays are required for literally all sectors of economy, due to a strong move of society to online services and adoption of new business models
If a parent were to allow screen time for her/his children, coding will be one of the most productive use of screens among all other activities.
It is by far better to learn useful, practical skills that are in high demand globally, than engage in non-productive hours spent on social networks or just playing games.
Parental management and direction on use of screen time and its productivity is key, and that could be achieved only by making informed choices.
EXAMPLE OF CODE ART DONE BY ONE OF OUR STUDENTS
Generative Art ( also called code art or algorithmic art ) is a novel art form created by an algorithm that generates designs and patterns. In 2021 it gained a wide public recognition due to artist Beeply who sold his digital art work for $US 69 million.
The coding project in this video was created by one of our 8-year old students
