The TESDA Training Regulation for Mechanical Drafting Services outlines the necessary skills, knowledge, and standards required for individuals who wish to become competent in creating technical drawings and blueprints for mechanical parts, machines, and systems.
This course is based on the Mechanical Drafting NC II qualification. It trains learners to use drafting tools and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to produce precise and detailed mechanical drawings. Students also learn to interpret technical plans and specifications, follow safety procedures, and apply standard practices in mechanical drafting work.
Mechanical drafting plays a vital role in engineering, manufacturing, and construction industries, as it helps turn ideas and concepts into accurate visual representations that can be used for building and production.
Upon completion of the training and successful assessment, graduates are awarded a National Certificate (NC II) from TESDA, which recognizes their ability to work as qualified mechanical draftspersons either in local industries or abroad.
Draft Mechanical Layouts
Create 2D drawings of mechanical parts, tools, machines, and systems.
Interpret Technical Drawings and Plans
Understand and read blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings.
Perform Basic CAD Operations (Optional Centers)
Some centers may introduce simple Computer-Aided Design (CAD) operations.
Apply Line Work and Dimensioning
Draw using proper lines (e.g., centerlines, hidden lines) and add correct measurements.
Prepare Assembly Drawings
Create detailed drawings showing how different parts fit together.
Follow Standard Drafting Conventions
Use correct symbols, formats, and standards for mechanical drafting (e.g., ISO, ANSI).
Maintain Drafting Equipment and Tools
Proper care and handling of technical pens, T-squares, compasses, and drawing boards.
Nominal Training Duration: 160 Hours (about 1.5 to 2 months full-time)
Job Roles
Drafting Assistant
Junior Mechanical Draftsman
CAD Operator (for centers that include basic CAD training)
Engineering Assistant (Drafting Department)
Entry Requirements
Basic literacy (can read and write)
Basic math skills (especially geometry and measurements)
Basic knowledge in using computers (for centers that offer CAD introduction)
Physically fit (especially for long drafting sessions)
After completing the training, you will undergo a National Assessment.
You will be asked to:
Read and interpret mechanical drawings
Create your own mechanical drawing based on given specifications
If you pass the assessment, you will receive a National Certificate (NC I) in Mechanical Drafting, valid for 5 years (renewable).
