Stay Mentally Healthy
Last Updated: 15th June 2022 2:50 pm
We started thinking on various topics and finalized mental health as our project. We thought that mental health is being left out and not being discussed enough in our society. We plan to make a hand book which gives tips or suggestions to people with mental health issues. Most of the mental health issues do not require medical assistance and can be resolved with proper help. We went through a lot of websites and made different charts, mind maps etc. to find out the root cause. We segregated Mental Health into different sections, we short listed them and a went through a lot of statistics. we look forward to help people with mental health issues.
The Goal of the Project it to make people stay mentally healthy.
We thought that mental health is a very important issue to be addressed. Almost 10% of 1.3 billion strong population suffers from mental health issues in India. In order to address these issues we thought to make a simple "Handbook" to help people cope up from these issues.
Initially we started with discussing about the problems to be solved. And based on lot of brainstorming of ideas we came up with a lot of ideas.
1) Changes and additions in pedology to further empathetic values among students in academically and work intensive institutions
2) Working on Mental Health of university students
3) Elderly Care
4) Drinking Water
5) Educating Farmers
Based on all the suggestions we thought to work on 3 ideas and further reduced it to 1 idea on Mental Health
Today we believe that we have found the root cause for all the mental health issues people are facing. This helped us in implementing a solution of developing a simple book which would provide life lessons through fun activities; providing hope and belief to people and helping them to look the world in a different perspective thus making sure they overcome or stay mentally healthy .
This chart describes regarding the different mental health categories people are facing(based on our research).
They are:
Anxiety
Eating Disorder
Suicide
Addiction
Diseases
Depression
Communication Disorder
Other disorders
Below each word cloud ,there are few words the helped us to map a particular comment or resource referred to that particular category.
Later we fine grained the problems into smaller questions and each of us tried to address them.
The fine grained problems list is:
Disruptive Behavior
Self Harm
Anger
Low Self Esteem
Stress
Lack of Concentration
Mood Swings
Panic Attacks
Fights
Trust Issues
Peer Pressure
Insomnia
This shows our thorough study on how a mentally unhealthy person ,if not given proper attention might lead to a serious condition of him/her having intention of committing a suicide.
This tells the states a mentally unhealthy person undergoes which lead him/her to suicide.
Towards the top right we find the reasons why people commit suicide.
It also shows the statistics of suicidal rate and methods used by a person to commit suicide.
From the solutions we have found out ,we decided to answer few questions with the help of the solutions obtained. The above images depict them.
From the research and analysis and evaluating and pondering about different ideas we came up with a self help book which was applauded by many
Based on all the suggestions we thought to work on 3 ideas and further reduced it to 1 idea on Mental Health.
We segregated Mental Health into different section or categories and mini problems related to it. We wrote all the problems on a sheet of paper.
Later we short listed them and made a mind map of all the subdivisions of the mental health issues.
We did intensive research about the medical facilities, procedures for detecting mental health conditions of people. We also collected current statistics about India's Mental Health.
By going through a lot of data we found that the root cause for mental illness is depression.
We also found events leading to mental health issues and depression among others and sequence of events leading to people feeling problems in mental health thus leading to suicide.

All of the members of the team sat together and started coming up with solutions to the major issues in the mind map.
Each person had t come up with 3 solutions for each subtopic in the mind-map and answers to the questions given by sir.
Later we formulated 3 questions to be answered and found our answers which were to be very unique from each other.

we had to short list and select 4 or 5 points from the plethora of points written by us during the last week meeting.
We had a debate over selected points to discuss the pro's and con's of each one of them.
we also had a very useful discussion with sir, in which we talked about students indulging in drugs.
We classified the solutions for different problems on the basis of difficulty to implement, time taken, cost and the method of implementation.
we rated them on the basis of 1-5, 5 being the highest.
For the method of implementation, we had to segregate them on the basis of software, hardware, personal assistance and requirement of infrastructure.
On lot of Brain storming we decided to write a book. We wanted to make a book which will be as a good friend to the readers and engages them into different activities and makes them ponder about themselves and their beautiful memories.
First we drew an outline of the book deciding upon the contents to be present in it.
Later we made a manual hard copy of it and a soft copy of it too. The goal of the book is to help readers solve their problems by looking it in a different perspective which they may not tend to do so in their respective mental state. We felt that the book would help them to analyze themselves give them hope and a bit fun on doing the exercises in it and help them look at the world in a different perspective. And finally we arrived at a book name called "BE KIND TO YOUR MIND". ☺️
We solicited feedback on our prototype.
We put our prototype on display along the media lab corridor and asked for feedback.
We told them it was a mental health handbook for the first reviews, and they were really satisfied with the presentation.
Later on, We just asked them what the book was , and the majority of them identified it as a mental health: self-help book.
The fill-in-yourself pages in the book piqued the pupils' curiosity, and they were pretty impressed.
They emphasized that these kind of fill-in-yourself pages keep the user engaged and makes the book dynamic.
