Handmade Soap vs Commercial Soap

There are a number of reasons why handmade soap is better for your skin and the environment.

The number one difference is the GLYCERINE. Handmade soap contains glycerin which is a natural byproduct of the soap-making process, an excellent moisturizer, and also one of the reasons that handmade soap is so good for your skin! Store-bought, mass-produced bars normally do not contain glycerin and can leave your skin feeling dry and irritated.

Commercial soap sold in stores is often made with chemical detergents, hardeners, and synthetic lathering agents. Some of these ingredients can be drying or irritating on the skin. On the other hand, handmade soap created with oils, liquid, and lye does not contain these harsh ingredients and qualifies as 'soap'.

Toxin-Free: Conventional soaps have been linked to an increased risk of cancers, including breast cancer. Take a look at the ingredient lists of some of the popular soaps in the market today. You will find many chemical-sounding names, and the number of ingredients is pretty long as well. While it will be difficult to completely eliminate all toxins from your life, it is a good idea to reduce as much exposure as possible. Handmade or organic soaps are certified by trusted organizations and contain no harmful chemicals. Making your own organic soap at home also means you have complete control over the ingredients. You can use nourishing oils, butter, and essential oils for a skin-loving experience that smells amazing.

Handmade soap is made the old-fashioned way. Traditionally, handmade soap is made in one of two ways. Either Hot-Process or Cold Process, both end with the same result. The method we use at Cocoluxe Soapery is Cold Process.

The main reason why handmade soap is better for you than commercial detergents is based on the ingredients. If you make a handmade bar of soap and then add chemicals to it, you are no better off than the stuff you can buy at the grocery store. However, if you handcraft soap with all-natural ingredients and skip the chemical color and fragrance part, you will have a wonderfully good for your skin bar of soap.
