The Cochrane Christmas Bird Count History
The first count in the Cochrane, Alberta area was conducted in 1996. The count has run from 1996 - 2008, and from 2010 - 2015. It was restarted in 2019.
The highest number of birds recorded was 5,100 in 2020. The highest number of species recorded was 41 in 2011.

2022 cOUNT dATA
The 2022 count was conducted on December 24, 2022. 2,988 individuals of 35 species were recorded.

2021 cOUNT dATA
The 2021 count was conducted on December 18, 2021. 3,959 individuals of 40 species were recorded.

2020 cOUNT dATA
The 2020 count was conducted on January 2, 2021. 5,100 individuals of 39 species were recorded. The first count day gyrfalcon in the count's history was recorded this year! The first bufflehead and trumpeter swan recorded were observed this year as well.

2019 cOUNT dATA
The 2019 count was conducted on January 5, 2020. 2,765 individuals of 35 species were recorded. The first barred owl in the count's history was recorded this year!
