We highly recommend using Google Maps to find "Cobia Beach Guest House, Hopkins Belize". Once you locate our cabins, research the restaurants and businesses close by to us. Also research waterfalls, mayan ruins and other fun things so you can decide if you want a rental car or just a golf cart for your stay. Many guests are content to walk to many great restaurants near by and just hangout in our hammocks.
Taxi / shuttle service to / from Hopkins:
Julian's shuttle service Whatsapp: tel:+011-501-636-5601
Rentals (Vehicles, golf carts)
Bus: If you want to take a bus, it's a bit of a challenge and we don't recommend it.
* 1st you must take a taxi from the airport to the bus stop, then the bus takes you to Hopkins junction. Then another taxi from the junction to our cabin. (this is the cheapest option, but not worth it)
Puddle Jumper Flight to Dangriga:
* This is a fun excursion along the coast, very safe smooth flight. Approx. $90 per person. Then approx. $50 taxi ride from Dangriga airport to Cobia.
* Maya Island Air
* Tropic Air
Must Do While Here:
Snorkeling or scuba. Use Google Maps to find a good guide. Islands / reefs are only 30 min. boat ride.
Fishing, even if you don't like fishing, have your snorkeling guide catch one for you. Then have Maxim's restaurant cook it for you.
Hiking rain forest, waterfalls. Bocawina is 20 minutes away. You must be in shape, 1 hour hike each way up and down a tricky mountain. There is another waterfall 20 min. drive that is a much easier hike.
Eat at as many local restaurants as you can. $.50 breakfast tacos at roadside stands.
Wake up at 5am every morning for amazing sunrises and walks down beach.
Stay up late, there is a party at a different local restaurant every night, with local drums and bands. Just ask a local where it is each night.
Nap all afternoon in hammocks under coconut trees, watching the Pelicans and Manatee.
Drink coconut water from our trees poured over ice, mixed with coconut rum and pineapple juice.
Drive to Placencia for lunch at Tipsy Tuna, drinks at Yoli's then dessert at TutiFruti.
Rent a golf cart for a day, stop by as many restaurants as possible for one appetizer and one drink at each place.
If you have never been to Mayan ruins, then it's worth going. 1.5 hours away for the biggest / best one.
If you love animals, stop by the Belize zoo for 1/2 hour walk through to see all local animals. Do this on the way from airport to Hopkins. Probably not worth 1 hour drive from Hopkins to see it. Keep your eyes open to see local birds and animals while on the bus or while driving.
Walk or rent bikes to explore the entire village. You will see, learn and experience a lot more at a slow pace.
Your teenage boys will be welcomed to play basketball on the court across the street with locals. Learn their rules, they play by a slightly different, but fun set of rules.
