Neuron - The neuron is the basic working unit of the brain, a specialized cell designed to transmit information to other nerve cells, muscle, or gland cells. Neurons are cells within the nervous system that transmit information to other nerve cells, muscle, or gland cells. Most neurons have a cell body, an axon, and dendrites.
*Exercise increases BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor) in the brain, which is a chemical in the brain that increases neuron production and enhancement. In essence, exercise makes us smarter!
Oct. 1st-16th
Endurance (Cardiovascular & Muscular) - the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way. How long one can perform an activity for without stopping.
Cardiovascular - How long a person can continue to perform an exercise without having to stop because of cardiovascular exhaustion.
Muscular - The length of time a person can continue a particular exercise before experiencing muscular failure.
Oct. 22nd - 26th
Strength (Muscular) - The amount of force applied to an object.
Oct. 29th - Nov. 20th.
Balance - an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.
Dec. 10th-19th
Coordination - I describe coordination to our students as getting multiple body parts to work together with timing to get accomplish a task. coordination is not just judging one skill. One person could be fantastic as locomotor movements but not have a lot of coordination or skill at catching or throwing objects. Activities such as jump rope are great tests of coordination because it gets multiple body parts working in sequence to accomplish a task.
Dec. 10-20
Reaction time is the amount of time it takes to respond to a stimulus. An example of reaction time is when a bug stings within 1 second of being approached.
Flexibility - the quality of bending easily without breaking. Flexibility prevents injury and allows for full range of motion which can increase skill technique and muscle recruitment for added power.

Agility - ability to move quickly and easily. The ability to move swiftly, change directions.
Power - Combination of force and speed.
Health Related Fitness - 5 components directly reflecting ones health. Cardiovascular Endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, body composition.
1 step Approach - Using 1 step to more accurately underhand roll the ball. Used for consistent release point while creating opposition and accuracy.
