It is my mission to advocate for our most vulnerable teachers who serve our most vulnerable student population. Yes, Special Education is an ambiguous topic, with several moving pieces; however, I am here to help you train so that you can retain your Special Education teachers.
Problem: Teachers leaving the profession is at an all-time high. Many site working conditions, the lack of administrative support, behavior problems, and a lack of student motivation. General education teachers don’t feel completely confident in helping students diagnosed with disabilities. Special educators, who are supposed to be specialists, often find themselves in the crosshairs of trying to do their job and keep their job. While there are advantages to being a traditionally trained educator, the landscape of education is drastically changing every day. The number of non-traditionally trained educators, who will enter the field on a provisional license, will soon outpace the number of graduates who have been traditionally trained. Special educators often struggle the most in this area as a majority of them do not have practicum or student teaching experience. This struggle often leaves teachers feeling they are not proficient in completing their jobs and are constantly wrestling with whether to fight to keep their jobs or leave the profession altogether.
Coach Investors seeks to support novice teachers and help them navigate through the world of Special Education. This support includes new special education teachers understanding their role in and out of the classroom. This support also includes general education teachers understanding what is necessary to help a student diagnosed with a disability. Those that are on a provisional license need the most assistance as they often don't understand what they are really supposed to do to help a student. Even those that are traditionally trained need assistance in bridging the gap between their coursework and the real work.
