I am currently serving the students and staff Roby Elementary School, a PK-5 elementary school in Bullitt County Kentucky, as the Lead Caregiver and Principal. We partner with Seven Counties to provide therapeutic mental health services to students at school. Our Caregivers work closely with businesses and individuals in the community towards our purpose of Inspiring the Unimaginable for our Cougar Cubs.
Prior this role, I have served as an assistant principal of a K-12 day treatment/alternate education program (1 year), an assistant principal of a traditional high school (2 years), a curriculum and assessment coach of a traditional middle school (1 year), a special education co-teacher at a middle school (3 years), a special education teacher at a 6-12 alternative education program that served both a school district and a residential facility (5 years), and a self-contained EBD teacher in a traditional high school (3 years). My first passion continues to be working with at risk youth. Empowering teachers to lead within their areas of unique gifts has become my second passion. As an administrator, I have found that I can't be everywhere at one time and I have learned that I don't have all of the answers. Empowering teachers to lead within their area of passion and gifts provides an entire school community autonomy, purpose, mastery, and connectedness.
I completed my the Doctoral program at Morehead State University in the spring of 2021. My research in the Doctor of Education - Specialization in P-12 Administrative Leadership program has been around coaching teachers. As a practitioner, much of my time is spent in coaching conversations with teachers about restorative care and instructional practices. I believe that the process of coaching can accelerate our evolution as individuals, teams, and organizations. As Grant Lichtman stated in Ed Journey (2014), "self evolution is the mechanism that best prepares for future ambiguity and unknowns, not for the present or the ‘near past’" (p. 223).
