This class is designed to implement the safety, knowledge, and benefits of strength training through weight lifting. The goal is for each student to gin the knowledge and skills necessary to improve their physical strength along with the ability to design and implement their own strength training program that is individualized to their own needs. Throughout the year students will be assessed through their 1 Rep Max (1RPM) in order to gauge their progress, these marks are not benchmarks in which they will be graded but will be graded on their ability to improve/maintain depending on the individual.
This class is unique and adventurous in nature, I consider it a 'nomadic' class. We are very mobile in the sense that we use a classroom as well as gym, field, and campus space around the school throughout the year. The class's focus is on the "Lifetime Sports Model". This model focuses on low impact and non traditional games. My goal is to introduce/show student the resources both natural and provided by the community, city, state, and federal areas in which we can all take advantage of in order to lead a healthy lifelong active lifestyle.
This class traditionally uses field trips and we will attempt to continue this aspect this year. The challenge here is based on current pandemic orders and we will adapt accordingly.
