The Central New York (CNY) Branch of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has a documented history dating back to 1921, predating the Western and Eastern New York Branches. In 1935, the Journal of Bacteriology published proceedings that included activities from the Central New York State Branch. This branch later folded in 2000. However, in 2025, with a growing number of microbiologists in the region, the branch was re-established.
