The mission of the Central New York Branch of the American Society for Microbiology (CNY ASM) is to advance microbiology in the Central New York region by promoting scientific exchange, fostering collaboration, and supporting the professional development of microbiologists across all career stages. Through inclusive programming and education, and partnerships with other regional chapters and the national ASM, CNY ASM seeks to strengthen the regional microbiology community, enhance workforce and educational pathways, and represent the interests and contributions of microbiologists serving Central New York.

Active Members: Individuals who are members of good standing of the national ASM and have paid local dues. Active members are eligible to vote and hold any office or committee position within the Branch.
Associate Members: Individuals with an interest in microbiology who are not members of the national ASM but have paid local dues. Students and Postdocs cannot be Associate Members. Associate members may participate in all Branch activities and vote. These members may serve in the roles of Secretary and Marketing/Communications Director. They are eligible to serve on any committee.
Student/Postdoctoral Members: Matriculated undergraduate or graduate students, or individuals in postdoctoral training who have paid local dues. These members are eligible to participate in all Branch activities and vote. These members are not required to be members of good standing of the national ASM. Postdoc members may serve in the roles of Secretary and Marketing/Communications Director. They are eligible to serve on any committee except for Awards and Nominations.
Emeritus Members: Retired individuals who have been active members of the Branch for at least five years. Emeritus members are exempt from paying dues and retain voting privileges. There is no requirement for maintaining membership with the national ASM. They are eligible to serve on any committee and may serve in the roles of Secretary and Marketing/Communications.
