The test site at Swampdog Farm https://www.swampdogfarm.org is near Black Creek, on Vancouver Island, between Comox/Courtenay and Campbell River.
You MUST book your ferry and book well in advance! Vancouver Island is a tourist destination, and ferries get booked. If you do not book a reservation, you might have to wait several sailings to get across.
BC Ferries https://www.bcferries.com
Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (gets you a little closer to SDF…but you could hit heavy traffic driving through Vancouver.)
or
Tsawwassen to Duke Point
Keep in mind that traffic through the Lower Mainland can be very backed up. Give yourself a lot of time to get to your reservation. You MUST be there 30 minutes before sailing, or you will lose your reservation.
Black Ball/Coho Ferry https://www.cohoferry.com If you are coming from the United States, from south of Seattle, consider taking the Black Ball from Port Angeles to Victoria. They allow well behaved dogs up on the deck! You will arrive at downtown Victoria and will go through customs once you get off the ferry, in Victoria. Bonus…you get a lovely view of Victoria Harbour.
Border Crossing
American handlers will need a passport. Please familiarize yourself with the border requirements, for each country. The closest border crossings are the Douglas Peace Arch or Pacific Highway Blaine (Truck) Crossing. There are a few other crossings not too far down the border. If you take one of those crossing, take 8th or 16th Avenue west to the Tsawwassen ferry or the highway (highway traffic often gets backed up) to Horseshoe Bay. There are apps and websites to check the border wait times. Here is one https://vancouver.citynews.ca/border/
FLYING - If you are flying, you should fly into the COMOX airport.
