In 2017, there were a total of 5,147 fatal job-related injuries in the United States [1]. Among the most perilous of these jobs is that of a window washer, one who scrubs down windows as he/she hangs delicately from the top of a skyscraper. The current system to clean skyscraper windows is time-consuming, expensive, and constantly puts human lives at risk. Our objective with this project was to create a robot capable of autonomously traversing the sides of skyscrapers and cleaning the windows as it goes. With this, we hoped to optimize the window-washing process by saving time, money, and human lives.
