Hello! My name is Chris Stimson, a bassist, composer, and music educator in the Greater Boston and New Hampshire Seacoast areas. I earned my Masters of Music in Music Education from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in 2024 and my Bachelors of Music in Music Composition from Keene State College in 2022. As a performer, I have covered several genres and styles, ranging from Classical to Jazz, Rock to Musical Theatre, and most anything in between. As a composer, I write pieces for both instrumental chamber ensembles and solo works, as well as Jazz charts of various styles. I have experience as an educator in both the classroom and private lessons, and currently teach grades K-5 General Music and 4-5 Strings in Burlington, MA.
I began my early music career as a guitarist when I was seven-years-old, later picking up flute to join my elementary school's concert band. Both of these instruments carried into my middle school years, where I played in both concert band and jazz band. As I entered high school, I added saxophone to my skillset in concert band, continued with guitar in the jazz bands, and taught myself electric bass and keyboard at home. I also played with a rock band for several years, covering both bass and rhythm guitar roles. I began my compositional career there as well, writing my first major work for concert band when I was eighteen-years-old, conducting it with my high school wind ensemble. My undergraduate studies were where I found my love of the double bass, making it my primary instrument ever since. I further refined my compositional, woodwind, and guitar chops throughout this time as well. I began to take a more serious role in teaching at this time too, rehearsing conducting several of my college's ensembles, leading me to pursue graduate studies in music education and attaining my teaching license in Massachusetts. I continue to perform as a bassist, assisting in musical theatre productions, jazz ensembles/combos, and symphonic orchestras.
