During the flight home from a very difficult trip to attend a friend's funeral, I was blessed with a window seat and the accompanying view of the thunderstorm we flew through.
Grief and an eleven hour layover in the Denver airport aren't a particularly inviting combination, but-
Every cloud has it's silver lining I suppose.

Seeing this in person was an experience of a lifetime. At first, the aurora seemed like low clouds clinging to the horizon, but as the night progressed they strengthened into these beautiful curtains!
At their peak, the sky seemed to be pulsing.
We ended up with a k-index of 8.2 at the peak!

Commonly thought to be a rare type of cloud, they are actually fairly common! Their lifetimes, however, are on the time order of seconds to minutes making capturing them difficult.

The sunset from tonight!
Sunset and sunrise are great times to see contrails. Also! the sun’s rays have to travel farther through the atmosphere scattering blue light leaving the pretty reds and oranges you can see here!
