Module 2
The art of planning and prioritization
The art of planning and prioritization
How do you understand Franklin's quotation about planning?
Do you agree with his opinion?
Let's find out what time management techniques are used by some world-famous (and very rich) people.
Work in pairs and discuss your opinions about the pieces of advice given. After the discussion, each student will tell the class about their partner's opinion.
Now let's dive into some more techniques for prioritizing your tasks and spending time more efficiently.
Which one would you like to try?
Choose one of the techniques discussed today and try to use it next week. In the next lesson you are going to report on the effectiveness (or lack of effectiveness) of the method. Support your points visually.
At home you were supposed to choose one of the techniques and try to use it for the whole week. Work in groups and present your points.
It's high time we learnt how to set goals in order to definitely achieve them. Let's get acquainted with the SMART system.
Work in pairs. Read the examples of SMART goals of a person who wants to find a job. Check if the goals are set properly. Come up with some changes if needed.
1) SPECIFIC: I want to work at a good company.
2) MEASURABLE: I want to go on some interviews soon.
3) ATTAINABLE: I would like to search, apply and land a job by the end of the week.
4) RELEVANT: I want to read all the articles and blogs on the subject of Linguistics and how it's changed over the past 8 years.
5) TIME BOUND: I will get hired.
1) I want to work at a small start-up in Moscow.
2) I want to go on at least 5 interviews next month.
3) I want to land a job in 3 moths from now.
4) Within one year I want to attend at least 1 big conference where I can enlarge my social circle.
5) I will be hired within 3 months by attending at least 2 major networking events, applying for 5+ jobs, and setting up 2 introduction calls a week.
First, try to formulate your SMART goal. Then discuss it with a partner and exchange feedback. After that present your SMART goals to the class.
