Three accomplishments:
I created a Google Site where I will put all of the maps, suggested readings, lesson plans, and other original written content that comes from my research on this project.
I got two microwave-able popcorns for the price of one thanks to a vending machine miracle.
I made it through the week of heat advisory without feeling too miserable.
Three obstacles to completion of my best work:
I was distracted by noise in nearly every "independent" work block where the whole group was holed up under "supervision" in the library lecture space. My solution: my AirPods and a white noise playlist at a decent volume. It has been helping me focus when I don't have questions or need to converse with the group.
Computer science lectures feel unnecessarily complex compared to the kind of CS knowledge we will supposedly be needing to make websites containing our research deliverables. Basic HTML or CSS coding seems more applicable then web app security, especially because no one in the group plans to use a web platform that requires logins. I understand why it is a part of our scheduled lectures, but having more time to craft our sites or do research seems more useful at week four.
I am starting to feel burnt out from getting asked the same questions each week! I have an idea of my topic and I want to have time to dig in and create, not do small tasks that take away time during the workday from this goal. I am struggling with enjoying some of those small tasks! I will try and be more open-minded next week.
Three things I've learned:
"Literature review" is another word for historiography.
My resume already sort of looks like a CV! Less work for me!
Reading book reviews is another way of skimming a book, at least in the world of history majors.
