"Restricted in Translation: Immigrant Communities, Housing, and Linguistic Barriers of York, Pennsylvania" is the final research paper I produced for HIS 463 during my sophomore fall semester. This research paper was then presented as part of a history and policy briefing, which sought to inform local policymakers, equal housing advocates, real estate agents, and other interested York residents on the historical context of local housing inequalities and policies connecting to these conditions. My independent research topic focused on the discrimination facing immigrants regarding language barriers.
"Crisis of Care: Minority Mothers in the United States" is the final research paper I created for HIS 471 during my sophomore fall semester. The topic for this paper was my choice, and I was most interested in exploring experiences of non-white and/or working-class mothers with the child care industry. I touch on expectations surrounding motherhood in the United States, mother's pensions, and the child care industry before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. I landed on this topic after reflecting on my mother's experience in raising two kids as a single mother and my time in child care.Â
