Student Schedules

• CI's will create and manage a student schedule with the student

• Students should not be scheduled during their scheduled university class/lab dates/times

• Schedules can be flexible and include some night and weekend shifts

• Should not exceed more than 10 hours per day or 40 hours per week

• Weekends cannot exceed 2 weekend shifts per calendar month (partial shifts count as full calendar day)

• Nights cannot exceed 6 night shifts per calendar week

• A varied hours form must be submitted for any hours completed on a university holiday or break, or for any hours above 24 hours per week

• **If a student is hired at your site in Nuclear Medicine, they can count working hours towards their clinical hour requirement.

Repetitions and Logbook

• Students will have an electronic copy of their clinical logbook. You can view a copy of their logbook by clicking on the link to the right. 

• Students should manage their own logbook requirements, but will need your assistance with providing evaluations, competencies, verification of documentation, etc. 

• CI's should expect to complete an end of semester evaluation each semester and will need to provide signatures verifying completion of clinical hours.

Repetitions:

• CI's are crucial in pass off repetition/competency and you can determine the best way for you and your team to accomplish this

• Any technologist can sign off repetitions/competencies, but the CI has the final say to ensure consistency

• Granting competency to a student for a specific exam does not indicate infallible expertise, the students should continue to be supervised by the CI and/or other technologists

• CI's should do some QA reviews of images with students to help them learn

• Should any issues or concerns arise with the student meeting their required competencies, CI's should reach out to their university contact for assistance

Professionalism

• CI’s are the best examples for students. Please remain professional at all times with the students, especially in front of patients.

• Demonstrate and share your expertise with the students 

• Provide the students with respectful critiques of their images/performance

• Please show patience with the students and be the example of creating a positive and welcoming learning environment for the students
