Welcome to the Central Alabama Chapter of the Climate Reality Project
The Central Alabama Chapter of the Climate Reality Project was founded in 2023 by a small group of trained Climate Reality leaders. Since our launch in November 2023, our chapter has grown from a small founding group into a vibrant community of over 50 members across Alabama, all united by our commitment to addressing climate change and building a sustainable future for our state.
Our chapter is co-chaired by Julianne Tharp and Zoi Jane Moon , who work together to guide our mission and foster collaboration across our growing membership. Their shared leadership reflects our commitment to inclusive, collaborative approaches to climate action.
We organize our efforts around three dynamic committees, each focused on creating meaningful change in Alabama:
Chair: Michael Linn
Our Business Working Group engages with a diverse range of organizations—from businesses and local government to faith-based groups and youth organizations. We work to help these entities understand environmental and social justice impacts while exploring their vital role in building a regenerative economy and society. Through partnership and dialogue, we're fostering a business community that prioritizes sustainability and social responsibility.
Chair: Didimos Johnson
The Education Committee serves as our outreach arm, educating the public on climate change impacts and solutions through presentations, tabling events, and policy engagement across Alabama. This committee emphasizes civic engagement and maintains active relationships with key Alabama entities like the Public Service Commission. We believe that informed communities are empowered communities, and education is the foundation of effective climate action.
Chair: Callie Heard
Our Communications Committee manages our digital presence and storytelling across Facebook and Instagram platforms. Through compelling content and strategic messaging, they help amplify our mission and connect with communities throughout Alabama, ensuring our work reaches those who need it most.
We're building a climate-conscious Alabama where communities, businesses, and individuals work together to create sustainable solutions that benefit everyone. Whether you're interested in business engagement, education and advocacy, or communications and outreach, there's a place for you in our growing movement.
